So, I've been bad

It's been about two weeks since I've done any push-ups.  I've had no motivation at all.

But I think I may have gotten the motivation I need to start up again.  I can't go into much detail, but suffice it to say, I need to get into shape.  That list of goals I posted awhile ago, are becoming a reality.

I am going to start One Hundred Push Ups over, add in on opposite days the Two Hundred Sit Ups Challenge, and add in some running too.  Not sure what days I will be running, but I think I'm going to have Sunday as my off day.  I need to print off some calendars to track everything.

For the running, I'm not sure if I will follow the Couch 2 5k or just run.

But I found some printable versions of the programs to keep posted on my fridge.  I'll use it to help motivate me and keep me accountable.

One Hundred Push Ups - Week 1, Day 3

I took an extra day off from push ups.  And I'll admit it was because I was lazy.  But I got off my butt tonight and finished Week 1, Day 3.  Oh my god it was hard.  I really struggled with the first 2 sets, but I started feeling better going into set 3.  My goals for set 5 have been to do better than my previous max.  I really thought I wouldn't get it tonight, but I did.  It was by one push up, but that counts.

DAY 3
REST 120 SECONDS BETWEEN EACH SET (LONGER IF REQUIRED)
SET 14811
SET 251015
SET 3479
SET 4479
SET 5max (at least 5)max (at least 10)max (at least 13)

Set 5 - 13

One Hundred Push Ups - Week 1, Day 2

Week 1, Day 1 was not too bad.  I thought I'd struggle as I kept doing more sets.  It felt good to do the last set, sadly as per my previous post, I only managed 10 push ups.  But it'll be interesting to see my progress.

So on to Week 1, Day 2!

Today wasn't too bad.  I struggled a bit towards the end and I realized just how sore I was from the other day.  It felt good and I can feel some progress already.  I decided to switch my days to Wed, Fri, Sun.

Following the middle column

DAY 2
REST 90 SECONDS BETWEEN EACH SET (LONGER IF REQUIRED)
SET 13610
SET 24812
SET 3268
SET 4368
SET 5max (at least 4)max (at least 7)max (at least 12)

Set 5 - 12

Better than day 1, but I really struggled on the last set.  I pushed myself to beat my previous max set.  Hopefully I can keep up the trend.

Baby Steps

I came across the One Hundred Push ups website via Ben Does Life.  I've decided to start working on that.

First thing's first, the initial test.
My results: about 9-10 push ups

I think they were done correctly, but I'll go with that number.  I fall under Rank 2 in their system so off I go.  I will be doing this 3 times a week.  Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Today's work out (I will be following the middle column for Rank 2):

DAY 1
REST 60 SECONDS BETWEEN EACH SET (LONGER IF REQUIRED)

SET 12610
SET 23612
SET 3247
SET 4247
SET 5max (at least 3)max (at least 5)max (at least 9)
ETA: Set 5 - 10

I will update this entry with my max # in set 5 after I finish.

So, who else wants to join me?

Do Life!

Late last week, I found that someone on Ravelry in a running group, posted the video of Ben Davis's story.  Since then, I've spent the last couple days reading his entire blog at  bendoeslife.com.  It's such an inspirational journey.  I teared up reading several entries when he had accomplished one of his goals. It took me all weekend, but I read through the entire thing.  I feel like he's the best friend I never met. lol  I'm sad I found his blog after his Do Life Tour, I really would have attempted to go to one of the stops in Chicago, Minneapolis, or Omaha.

His motto throughout it all is "All you have to do is do it".  Which is true, you're not going  to accomplish any goals if you sit on your ass and do nothing. I'd love to be able to complete at 5K in about 30 minutes.  But I know that's not going to happen my first 5K.  So I have to train, and train hard.  Which I will do once I'm done with this last term of school that way I don't feel guilty that I'm not working on homework.  So, I'm looking at starting to walk after work on Wednesday and then possibly starting Couch to 5K next week.

Me wanting to do this isn't about losing weight, I want to be more healthy and becoming the fit person that I envision myself to be.

Updates....

My last day at my tech support job was good.  Glad to be out of there.  But I'm thinking my new job is not all that it's cracked up to be.  My training has only been a week and there's so much stuff that I need to learn and the gal who is training me, her last day is tomorrow.  I have not had orientation, I have not signed up for benefits, I will not have 40 hours this week.  This job was already a pay cut and cutting my hours is not helping.  So either I need another part time job, or I need to find a new full time job.

I did receive an email today that the dream job I want will be accepting applications again starting tomorrow, so I'm applying for that.  So that means, I will need to start getting in shape in case I am chosen to continue in the application/interview process.

So, I'm thinking I need to start the Couch to 5k program.  I will roughly be following this plan.

My fitness goals will be:
  • 1-min sit-ups I need to be able to do at least 41-42
  • Timed 300-Meter Sprint - at least 59.9-57.5 seconds
  • Push up (untimed) - I need to be able to do at least 22-26
  • 1.5 Mile Run (in minutes:seconds) - 12:59-12:30
I better get off my lazy geeky ass and get cracking.

The plan tomorrow, after work and after going to the court house and bank, I will go for a mile walk.

I watched this for some inspiration/motivation, and I think it may have worked
