Week 1, Day 1 was not too bad. I thought I'd struggle as I kept doing more sets. It felt good to do the last set, sadly as per my previous post, I only managed 10 push ups. But it'll be interesting to see my progress.
So on to Week 1, Day 2!
Today wasn't too bad. I struggled a bit towards the end and I realized just how sore I was from the other day. It felt good and I can feel some progress already. I decided to switch my days to Wed, Fri, Sun.

Better than day 1, but I really struggled on the last set. I pushed myself to beat my previous max set. Hopefully I can keep up the trend.
First thing's first, the initial test.
My results: about 9-10 push ups
I think they were done correctly, but I'll go with that number. I fall under Rank 2 in their system so off I go. I will be doing this 3 times a week. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Today's work out (I will be following the middle column for Rank 2):

I will update this entry with my max # in set 5 after I finish.
Late last week, I found that someone on Ravelry in a running group, posted the video of Ben Davis's story. Since then, I've spent the last couple days reading his entire blog at bendoeslife.com. It's such an inspirational journey. I teared up reading several entries when he had accomplished one of his goals. It took me all weekend, but I read through the entire thing. I feel like he's the best friend I never met. lol I'm sad I found his blog after his Do Life Tour, I really would have attempted to go to one of the stops in Chicago, Minneapolis, or Omaha.
His motto throughout it all is "All you have to do is do it". Which is true, you're not going to accomplish any goals if you sit on your ass and do nothing. I'd love to be able to complete at 5K in about 30 minutes. But I know that's not going to happen my first 5K. So I have to train, and train hard. Which I will do once I'm done with this last term of school that way I don't feel guilty that I'm not working on homework. So, I'm looking at starting to walk after work on Wednesday and then possibly starting Couch to 5K next week.
Me wanting to do this isn't about losing weight, I want to be more healthy and becoming the fit person that I envision myself to be.
My last day at my tech support job was good. Glad to be out of there. But I'm thinking my new job is not all that it's cracked up to be. My training has only been a week and there's so much stuff that I need to learn and the gal who is training me, her last day is tomorrow. I have not had orientation, I have not signed up for benefits, I will not have 40 hours this week. This job was already a pay cut and cutting my hours is not helping. So either I need another part time job, or I need to find a new full time job.
I did receive an email today that the dream job I want will be accepting applications again starting tomorrow, so I'm applying for that. So that means, I will need to start getting in shape in case I am chosen to continue in the application/interview process.
So, I'm thinking I need to start the Couch to 5k program. I will roughly be following this plan.
My fitness goals will be:
1-min sit-ups I need to be able to do at least 41-42
Timed 300-Meter Sprint - at least 59.9-57.5 seconds
Push up (untimed) - I need to be able to do at least 22-26
1.5 Mile Run (in minutes:seconds) - 12:59-12:30
I better get off my lazy geeky ass and get cracking.
The plan tomorrow, after work and after going to the court house and bank, I will go for a mile walk.
I watched this for some inspiration/motivation, and I think it may have worked
In this past week I had to spend a lot more money than I had wanted to with the whole new job thing. Just spent $1000 to get my car fixed and then on Wednesday evening the air conditioning in the house decided to crap out. The earliest we are able to get someone out is on Monday. I’m not too thrilled with the prospect of 4 more days without air conditioning.
I’m trying to devise some ways to keep cool while we’re waiting. Last night it did drop down into the 70s, so we did open some windows. But fat lot of good that did for the bedroom. We had, technically, 4 fans going in the bedroom last night. A small one for the dog, a ceiling fan, another standing (ionic?) fan and then a bigger round fan. It didn’t help much. It was still about 85 degrees in the bedroom.
I have gel ice pack that I’ve been using and setting on my chest to cool me off. When I went to bed last night, I got a spray bottle and kept spraying myself with the fan on to keep me cool.
I got the bright idea this morning that I should use the bigger fan to try and blow the hot air out of the bedroom. Though that will be a feat in an of itself. The cats are not allowed in the bedroom. The fan is not wide enough to fit in the door. So, what I think I will try is to set up a folding chair, put the baby gate in front of it, and then put the fan on the chair. Hopefully this will cool off the bedroom. I may have to buy another fan, so we’re not totally fan-less in the living room. The ceiling fan can only do so much.
I’m just glad I don’t have fur like our poor kitties and dog. The dog is getting a good brushing, fur cut and a bath. Hopefully that will help her. The cats on the other hand...I’m not risking my life to give all 5 of them a bath.
I saw a an article online that recommended soaking a t-shirt in lukewarm water then sitting in front of a fan. Not a bad idea.
I had the day off yesterday and took several lukewarm/cool showers, which helped too. But after I got my car back I went to Panera for a couple hours to do my homework. That was nice, I didn’t want to leave.
I found this tip online: Get a 1 or more 3 liter bottles, fill them full of water, FREEZE them but in a manner to not damage them (H2O expands on freezing), then place them in a LARGE bowl(To catch condensate water). Position a fan to blow on these blow upon them. Make sure the fan is solar powered/battery powered, in case you lose power due to a heat wave. As the ice in the bottles melt, the air cools around them. The fan will blow that air at you. The bowl full of condensate water can be used, if clean, for non consumption use. The water in the bottles can be frozen overnight and used again, repeatedly.
Not a bad idea, I do have several frozen bottles of water
Today I put in my 2 weeks notice at my call center/tech support job. I am very happy to be getting out of the negative environment. While I love computers, I loathe hand-holding people through basic tasks. I will be taking a pay-cut, but I think my mental health is a little more important. I loved what I did, but if I could work at my own pace and not have management breathing down my neck it would be much better.
I will be going in a completely different direction, albeit, something I've always wanted to do...I will be a baker. I've always wanted to be a baker, but never thought I'd be able to go to culinary school to do so. Apparently, I didn't have to! I'm really excited, I'll start on Aug. 1st.
