I've always been a severe weather buff. I loved studying tornadoes and watching storm spotter videos. One year for my Christmas my boyfriend at the time, got me a video camera. The sole purpose I wanted it was for storm spotting.
Right now, we're under a tornado warning (yes, I'm on the computer) and it made me think back to when I was a kid when get had a tornado warning.
I used to have a bag of things I packed that I couldn't live without if something would happen. I even made a list so I made sure to grab everything.
Now, I grabbed my purse, got my animals safe and grabbed the laptop. I will see if I can get some pictures to post.
Now, back to listening to the weather.

Weekends, how I love thee
The weekends are usually the time where I can relax and do all the baking and cooking I love to do. Friday night a friend had suggested we go to Wok and Roll (an Asian restaurant for those not familiar), but I declined. I love their garlic noodles and set off in search of a recipe that would do it justice. I came across a recipe on the blog White on Rice Couple. They in turn adapted it from The Steamy Kitchen Cookbook.
I did not add any mint or basil and I also used soy sauce, but added about 3 teaspoons instead since I really love soy sauce. I was a little skeptic about the oyster sauce since I didn't like the smell, but it definitely adds that bit of something to the taste of the dish.
Garlic Butter Noodles Recipe
It turned out pretty close to the garlic noodles from Wok and Roll, enough that I would rather make this quick meal at home than spend $13 for a single meal there. Seriously, it took more time to cook the noodles than throw it together. The jarred minced garlic is a life saver! I think it would be really good to add in some snow peas or even some other veggies and/or meat.

Garlic Butter Noodles Recipe
- 7 oz dry egg noodles or spaghetti noodles
- 3 Tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup fresh mint or basil, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoons Maggi Sauce or soy sauce
- 1 Tablespoon oyster sauce
1. In Large pot, bring water to boil and cook noodles according to the package instructions. Drain noodles and wipe pot clean. Return pot (or separate pan) to medium-high heat and add the butter. Once butter sizzles, add garlic. Fry for about 1 minutes or until fragrant. Don’t let the garlic burn.
2. Add brown sugar, Maggi Sauce and oyster sauce and stir well. Add noodles and toss evenly with the sauce.
3. Remove from pan and plate the garlic noodles in a large bowl and toss with fresh mint or herb of your choice.
